Empty Promises

Why do people make promises?
That they don't intend to keep
They play us along like stupid fools
And then they make us weep.

They make us think they want to help
In our time of desperate need
All that they want is 'power'
And this is their biggest greed.

The power to have us begging
Answering their every whim
Making us feel like 'nothing'
And making our lives quit dim.

All they want is an 'ego trip'
And this they get from us
People who need a little help
Not wanting to make a fuss.

We go about our own business
From day to lonely day
All we want is to survive this life
And this is all we pray.

So go away and leave us alone
And don't make our lives worse
Keep your empty promises
For all that they are worth!
